Dear Charles,
I enjoy reading your stories and having just finished Little Dorritt, I was struck by how little our society has changed over the last 200 years.
The "Marshalsea" debtors prison sounds like heaven compared to our present day internment camps for refugees, so much more compassion in your day. The characters
who people your pages bear a striking resemblance to the present day cast of
civil servants and politicians, with little progress made over many years on the important issues.
We have just elected a new government and in these early days are expecting great changes, in the living conditions of the "Homeless", yes I'm afraid 'the poor are still with us', also in education, hoping our schools will cater for all children, of all incomes and creeds, and good hospitals for all, not just the rich.
Wish you were still amongst us, Charles, you would find many good 'plots' for your novels, and as wide an array of characters as ever there were.
I shall continue to enjoy your books.
Yours
Chris Andrews
